چکیده

Newborn screening is the most modern public health preventive screening program involving the population at large and is mandatory in the USA, Europe, Japan and many South Asian countries. It is unfortunate that in India, newborn screening has not been given the attention it deserves. Neonatal hypothyroid screening using cord blood is an easy, practical & effective method. In most screening programs blood samples are collected at five to six days age, but with large number of babies being discharged early (usually the next day after a normal delivery and on the 3 day after a caesarean section), cord blood sample is essentially indicated.

Resetting the detection level of cord blood thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) for the diagnosis of congenital hypothyroidism.

An appraisal of a 17-year primary thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) screening programme for the detection of congenital hypothyroidism was carried out to establish the reference interval of cord blood TSH in unaffected infants; the mean cord blood TSH concentration of affected infants and the incidence of congenital hypothyroidism in the Najran province of Saudi Arabia. Our findings show a refe...

Cord blood thyrotropin screening for congenital hypothyroidism. Three years' experience on the Island of Saint Lucia.

Cord blood thyrotropin (TSH) screening for congenital primary hypothyroidism has been in effect on the island of St. Lucia for the past three years. Umbilical cord blood TSH levels in term neonates: a screening tool for congenital hypothyroidism.

This study was conducted to find normative values for thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in 1200 cord blood samples of term babies whose mothers were not on any thyroid medications. TSH was estimated within 24 hrs by enzyme immunoassay. A full thyroid profile, viz, T3, T4, TSH, fT3 and fT4 was done at 7-10 days of age in all babies with cord TSH >20 mIU/L. The mean, median and standard deviation...
